  • Don't Make Me Think, Steve Krug (This was the book that got me into UX and changed my life!)

  • UX for Beginners, Joel Marsh

Books that provide great overviews of the entire research process and/or research methods:

  • The UX Book: Process and Guidelines for Ensuring a Quality User Experience, Rex Hartson and Pardha S. Pyla

  • Understanding Your Users: A Practical Guide to User Research Methods, Kathy Baxter, Catherine Courage, and Kelly Caine UX Methods: A Quick Guide to User Experience Research Methods, James Pannafino and Patrick McNeil (This is a great reference book for any level of researcher. I like to keep it handy.)

  • UX Research: Practical Techniques for Designing Better Products, Brad Nunnally and David Farkas

  • Think Like a UX Researcher: How To Observe Users, Influence Design, and Shape Business Strategy, David Travis and Philip Hodgson

Books that aren't necessary to read, but I've found them to be helpful:

  • Designing Quality Survey Questions, Sheila B. Robinson and Kimberly Firth Leonard
