MasteryConnect

Using guerrilla testing to get a lot of user feedback really fast

Research Goals

The product manager and designer of this particular feature in the MasteryConnect app added functionality to the existing version and wanted user feedback before release. They wanted to know what users thought of the redesign. As was typically the case with our target audience––school teachers and administrators––it was difficult to schedule time for testing. I took advantage of a district-wide meeting and conducted 5-minute usability tests. I had three research questions:

  1. What do users think of the order and organization of the navigation boxes across the top of the page?

  2. Are there any common tasks we haven’t included in the design?

  3. What do users think of the look and feel of the design?

Methodology

  • Guerrilla Usability Testing with nine K–12 teachers and two K–12 administrators

Deliverables

Impact

Several modifications were made to the design based on my recommendations––from making certain design elements discoverable or persistent to designing a more comprehensive view of the information within the feature.
